Montague Co. Leaders Pushing For New Emergency Equipment

Montague County leaders are working to replace the radio console in the county Sheriff's Office before the upcoming budget year.

Commissioners say the move is aimed at avoiding a lapse in 911 emergency service. The equipment has been patched up over the past few years, and Sheriff Paul Cunningham had put in the request for the new equipment in his budget proposal for next year. However, Judge Tommy Sappington says he does not want the county to lose its emergency service should the radio go out.

Judge Sappington is making the motion for an emergency budget amendment to buy the new console, using funds from a cash carryover item.

Commissioners are estimating the equipment could cost several thousands of dollars, but they are looking for a cheaper deal.
