Cowboys Lose Asomugha Sweepstakes, Keep DE Spears

AP Pro Football Writer

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Jerry Jones chased the most coveted free agent on the market all the way to the finish line, only to come up short.

And if that wasn't bad enough for the Dallas Cowboys, the worst news was where cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha decided to go - the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Now the Cowboys are starting over in their search to give new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan some much-needed help in the secondary. Their aim will also return to the position they need most, safety.

Dallas took care of another necessity at defensive end by re-signing Marcus Spears.
