The saying goes, "you win football game in the trenches."
Nocona head football coach Brad Keck in a believer.
"The offense is going to start with the offensive line," Keck said. "If they do their job, everything else falls into place."
The members of the line, especially the returning five starters, share their head coach's belief. Senior left tackle Joseph Storey says last year's 1-9 season is the prime motivation for the 2011 season.
"We realize last year that whenever we didn't do great, that for us to do good, we're going to have to be a great offensive line," he said.
Keck says that main motivation is shared by everyone on the team, simply saying "they don't want to be 1-9 again."
Storey also says that the team has progressed well in the two days of camp, calling this year's camp the best he's attended since joining team. He and his fellow lineman will be relying on that experience for the upcoming season.
Just plain playing experience is valuable to the whole team. Keck says the jitters of the Friday night lights should be gone this season.
As far as the defensive side of the football, Keck's goals are the same as most other head coaches: get to the ball and tackle well.
Nocona opens the season against Whitewright on August 26th.
