Some Comanche & Cotton Co. Residents Under Mandatory Water Restrictions

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - The Comanche County Rural Water District No. 3 has established mandatory restrictions on water use. A letter from the water district's board of directors to its customers says the water system is operating at full capacity and is at risk of failing if demand is not reduced.

District office manager Karen Bishop told The Lawton Constitution that the district has 853 customers in eastern Comanche and northern Cotton counties. Customers are prohibited from watering lawns; filling, refilling or adding water to pools; washing vehicles; or establishing any new landscape that requires watering.

The water district in southwestern Oklahoma is in an area that's been rated for several weeks as in an exceptional drought.
