Wichita County Commissioners held the final public tax rate hearing Tuesday night. It's let concerned citizens voice their opinion to a proposed tax rate increase.
Wichita County is proposing a $.02.5 increase in property taxes. It would in part fund an across the board raise for county employees. Some citizens told the Commission that they were not for paying more in this troubled economic time. Wichita County Judge Woody Gossom spoke to them before Commissioners heard comments.
"I want to tell you we do appreciate you coming here," said Judge Gossom. "This is one of the larger crowds I've seen and I take that as a compliment. That means you are all interested in county government."
This is the final public hearing on the proposed tax rate increase. County Commissioners will vote next Monday in a Special Session to implement the increase or not.
