Parkland Hospital Warns Patients About Dirty Instruments

The Dallas Morning News is busting the lid wide open on a report that Parkland Memorial Hospital sent letters to 73 women last year who were treated, claiming they may have been worked on with improperly sterilized instruments.

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has already threatened to pull the plug on Parkland's Medicare funding after inspectors found a series of infection-control breakdowns this summer, though officials said that incident is unrelated to the obstetrical and gynecological patients who received the notice about the dirty instruments.

The hospital has issued a statement, claiming there were no medical complications for the women who opted for follow-up care.
