The Childress Workforce Solutions Office Is Closing

Newschannel six learned Wednesday afternoon The Workforce Solutions Office in Childress is closing.

It's one of seven offices shutting down in the panhandle region. Officials say 14 people from across all seven offices will lose their jobs.

Business will be consolidated into the Amarillo office, but service to rural areas will continue through web, fax and e-mail.

Staff will also make road trips across the area to service the unemployed. The Childress Office will close September 30th.
Officials say the closures come on the heels of losing $4 million in funding.

They say the loss is a mixture of state budget cuts, the end of the stimulus program, and the facts that unemployment there is the second lowest in the state and population is not growing
