MSU Cross-Country Ranked Highly in Pre-Season Polls

Mustangs Top Region in USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings

Midwestern State opens the 2011 campaign as the favorite to claim its first NCAA Division II South Central championship as the Mustangs were ranked No. 1 in the 2011 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Preseason regional rankings released Wednesday morning.
MSU returns seven letter winners off of last season's Lone Star Conference champion which finished second in the regional meet and 17th in the NCAA Division II nationals.
Seniors Brissia Montalvo and Lindsey Pate return to lead the squad. Montalvo earned All-LSC honors a season ago, finishing as runner-up in last season's conference meet, while Pate has been a part of three league titleists earning all-region and freshman of the year accolades in 2008.
The team is also powered by a trio of talented sophomore harriers including 2010 top frosh Ashley Flores, Janel Campbell and Cara Mack, while juniors Melody Caldwell and Heather Owens bolster an outstanding group of returners.
Incoming freshman Kim and Michelle Krezonoski, Erin Willeford, Sara Cuba, Ashley Mims and Erin Dombkowski fill out MSU's talented core.
The Mustangs open the 2011 with the MSU Stampede on Sep. 1 at the Memorial Athletic Complex.
