Texas Forest Service spokesman John Nichols said the fire burning in the Possum Kingdom area is now 60% contained and has burned around 6,500 acres of land since Tuesday.
No homes are being threatened at this time. Overall 40 homes have been destroyed.
More than 300 firefighters are working around the clock with three Texas task forces to snuff out the flames. Three water boaters are on scene to dump water from the lake onto the fire. Helicopters are also taking to the skies to put out the blaze.
Official say they hope the fire burned through most of the dry vegetation in its path overnight to make it easier to contain.
The evacuations for the Cliffs, Garland Bend and Gaines Bend subdivisions are still in effect as well as the Ranch, Harbor and Peninsula areas until further notice.
