Spence Takes LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Midwestern State's Ryan Spence garnered Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors when the league announced its weekly awards Wednesday afternoon.

Spence capped off scoring with a goal in the 86th minute to set off another solid effort by the Mustangs' senior captain.

The center back directed the MSU back line which limited Central Baptist (Ark.) to a total of five shots in a 7-0 shutout Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.

Eastern New Mexico's Anthony Bardon gained top offensive honors netting two goals and two assists to help the Greyhounds get out to a 2-0 start.

Midwestern State hits the road to take on Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday night and Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon.

Staley Takes Award on Women's Side

Midwestern State's Hanna Staley earned Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades Wednesday afternoon when the league announced its weekly awards.

The senior center back played a key role in organizing a defense which didn't allow a goal in the run of play in 200 minutes over two matches at last weekend's season-opening UNO Invitational.

The Mustangs limited Truman and Nebraska-Omaha to just three shots on goal while starting the season 1-0-1.

Abilene Christian's Andrea Carpenter earned top offensive honors after notching two goals and an assist as the Wildcats claimed wins over Dallas Baptist and Texas A&M International.

Incarnate Word's Tori Puentes made five saves to notch a shutout against Washburn (Kan.) to gain LSC Goalkeeper of the Week accolades.

Midwestern State takes on Southwest Baptist (Mo.) in its home opener Thursday night at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
