Alert Lifted For Altus AFB Military Members

Newschannel 6 has learned Altus Air Force Base has lifted its security alert for military members traveling to and from the Lawton-Fort Sill area.

Altus Base officials posted the updated information on their Facebook page. That is also where Newschannel 6 learned Friday about a possible threat to military members at Altus Air Force Base.

On Friday military members were directed by the 97th Vice Commander not to travel to and from the Lawton area while wearing military uniforms until further notice.

Lawton Police Chief said there was "no credible threat" for military members.

In a release from Fort Sill's Public Information Office they said:

The post maintains prudent security measures.

Fort Sill's law enforcement officials and Lawton Police Department officials will continue to assess the situation to ensure the safety of Lawton and Fort Sill residents.

Post officials are advising soldiers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement officials.

Sheppard Air Force Base did not have an alert in place during that time.
