MSU: Dwyer Named LSC Offensive Player of the Week

Midwestern State's Chris Dwyer garnered Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors Wednesday afternoon when the league announced its weekly awards.

The senior from South Kirkby, England tallied his first hat trick as a member of the Mustangs leading fifth-ranked MSU to a 5-0 win over Texas-Permian Basin Friday night in Odessa.

The 6-2 midfielder scored in the 43rd, 52nd and 63rd minute to run his season goal count to a team leading five.

Dwyer shared top offensive honors with Incarnate Word senior Callum Riley, who also scored a hat trick with three goals in a 4-2 win Friday over No. 19 Texas A&M International.

Midwestern State returns to its home pitch for the first time in four weeks Friday night against Texas A&M International. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Mustangs complete the weekend by playing host to St. Mary's (Texas) Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field at 1 p.m.

Cross Country Matches Best-Ever Ranking

Midwestern State regained the No. 12 position in the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Division II ranking released Wednesday afternoon.

The ranking matches the Mustangs' highest national standing, after MSU gained the No. 12 spot in the organization's 2011 preseason release.

MSU claimed a dual meet win over West Texas A&M last week and is set to compete in the University of Texas Grass Route Run Friday night in Austin.

The Mustangs are one of four teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 15 Truman (Mo.), No. 18 Pittsburg State (Kan.) and No. 20 Missouri Southern.
