The Wichita County Republican Party is working to move past the resignation of Former Chairman Tom McCorkill. Executive Committee Members have been calling for his resignation since March 2011. After months of pleas, McCorkill resigned Thursday.
"We are very thankful that he has taken this step. The executive committee has been unanimous since about March asking for his resignation with a vote of no confidence," said Vice Chair Danny Breegle.
Breegle will serve as acting Chairman until the committee meets in a few weeks to name an interim Chairperson. That person will serve until next spring when voters will elect a new Chair in a primary, if the race is contested.
Local businesswoman and GOP activist Donna Long has announced she will seek that office.
Newschannel 6 has repeatedly reached out to Tom McCorkill to seek his side of the story. Numerous messages have not been returned.
