The Future of Petrolia ISD Uncertain

The future of the Petrolia Independent School District is on the minds of school leaders.

Voters recently shot down a proposed tax increase for the ISD.

Superintendent Derrith Welch told Newschannel 6 they will continue making budget cuts. Welch says the ISD is facing a $300,000 deficit.

He says he's not concerned right now of a possible shutdown, but says within three years the school district might have to start looking at other alternatives.

Welch said residents know what the ISD is facing, and that he doesn't know what else he could have done to get the word out.
