Midwestern State remains entrenched at No. 12 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Division II rankings released Wednesday afternoon.
The Mustangs top a group of six teams from the South Central Region in the poll which also includes No. 13 Harding (Ark.), No. 15 Pittsburg State (Kan.), No. 20 Missouri Southern, No. 22 Truman (Mo.) and No. 25 Northwest Missouri.
MSU rolled to its second meet win of the season, dominating the Midwestern State Cross Country Carnival last Saturday at the former Hawk Ridge Golf Course.
The Mustangs placed seven runners in the top 15 and finished with 32 points to easily outdistance Dallas Baptist (90 points), Abilene Christian (95 points) and Tarleton State (98 points) in the 6K event.
Harding surged ahead 11 spots on the strength of winning the Jackling Jocks Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T last weekend. The Bison placed three runners in the top 11 led by Gladys Kimtai who covered the 5K course in 18:27.
HU edged No. 16 Pittsburg State by three points in the event. The Gorillas tallied 74 points paced by front runner Melissa Peden's third-place time of 18:11.
No. 20 Missouri Southern, No. 22 Truman and No. 25 Northwest Missouri placed third, fourth and sixth respectively while also competing in the Jackling Jocks Invitational.
Midwestern State enjoys an idle week before gunning for its fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference championship Saturday, Oct. 22 in San Angelo.
