GOP Has New Leader

The Wichita County Republican Party has a new leader. Donna Long was appointed as Interim Chairperson by the Executive Committee. Long, a local businesswoman and political activist had already said she would seek the position in the May 2012 Election.

Long has a background in the Navy, as an Occupational Therapist, business leader and has strong organizational management skills. She is hopeful those skills will pay off.  "Certainly I hope those past experiences will help me," she said.

The biggest challenge according to Long will be preparing for the 2012 primary. "Its going to be a lot of work to get ready for the primary… The Republican executive committee would like to do as much as possible to run their own primary… Its just taking off from here," she said.

There are minor tasks to take care of like re-vamping the party web site and voice mail. For the most part, the focus is on the future. "I'd like to see the Republican Party grow in numbers. Its quite large now, but I think with what's going on nationally we can't help but grow," said Long.
