Man Sentenced for Student ID Theft

A Dallas man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for streamlining an identity and faking being a college student.

Solomon Hobbs Jr., aka Virgil Clinton Powell, must repay over $37,000 in student loans.

Hobbs plead guilty to three counts of wire fraud, three counts of student assistance program fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft in August.

Investigators say Hobbs used another person's name in a student loan scam starting in 2004. They say he targeted University of Texas at Tyler, the University of Texas at El Paso, the University of Texas at Arlington, Midwestern State University and Texas State University.
