Sheppard Air Force Base Elementary Hands Out Hero Pillows

Sheppard Air Force Base Elementary is helping to bring some joy to kids who have parents who are deployed.

Kids are receiving a "Hero Pillow" to help them cope.

The pillow is a vinyl window for the parent's picture, so the child can keep their mom or dad close, while the parent is gone.

Jamie Mandeville, one of the "Hero Pillows" recipients, says she's thankful for people who make a special effort to help military families.  "This is the first time the kids have been included in something special like this and to let them know that they are thought of as well as the member who is gone."

Materials and supplies for the Hero Pillows are donated to the school and then sewn by Sheppard Elementary staff, relatives, and friends.
