Walk Raises Awareness about Suicide Prevention - KAUZ-TV: Newschannel 6 Now | Wichita Falls, TX

Walk Raises Awareness about Suicide Prevention

This morning nearly 100 people came out to Lucy Park to raise awareness about suicide prevention education. Nationally more than 45,000 walkers participated. It is estimated that nearly 1 million Americans make a suicide attempt while 33,000 die by suicide. The walk benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as well as local initiatives.

"We had 97 walkers, raised over $2,800 for suicide prevention education, research and advocacy. Fifty percent of that money comes back to the area for us to use in schools and programs," said Tiffany Dame, an organizer with the walk. Last year walkers across the country raised more than $3 million dollars.
