Officials To Test Alert System In Okla., Nation

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Government officials will be doing a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System for the first time.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management's website, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will conduct the test of the EAS on Wednesday.

Officials say the test will be done on television, cable, satellite and radio. The public will hear a message indicating that "This is a test."

The test may last up to 3 ½ minutes.
