STATE COLLEGE, Pa (AP) - Police at Penn State say they're gathering information on any possible arrests of students who rioted after longtime football coach Joe Paterno was fired.
Police in riot gear used pepper spray to try to break up the crowd of some 2,000 students who took to the streets of State College Wednesday night.
The students flooded downtown for about three hours after Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were fired amid a growing furor linked to their handling of sex abuse allegations
against a former assistant football coach.
Some students chanted `We want Joe! We want Joe!" Others toppled a TV news van and kicked in its windows. A photographer was pelted with a rock.
