Woman Shot 6 Times Before Dallas Standoff Ends

DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police say a woman survived being shot six times in the back and her common-law husband has been blamed for the attack.

Police say the couple's twin 4-year-old boys were at the family's home but not hurt during the nearly three-hour standoff that ended Sunday night when the man surrendered.

Police say the wounded woman managed to get to a nearby apartment before the standoff began. A spokeswoman at Methodist Dallas Medical Center told The Associated Press that 32-year-old Maria Martinez was listed in critical condition Monday.

Formal charges are pending against the man.

Police say the boys have been placed with relatives.
