Report: 16% Yet To Pass Okla. Grad. Tests

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma Department of Education report shows 16% of the state's high school seniors still must pass at least one state exam before being eligible to graduate next spring.

About 5,400 of the estimated 33,750 high school seniors in the state have yet to fully pass the tests.

The class of 2012 is the first to face the graduation requirements passed in 2005. The students must pass both Algebra I and English II tests and at least two from among Algebra II, English III, Biology, Geometry and U.S. History.

Assistant state superintendent Kerri White told The Oklahoman that students have one opportunity this winter and one during spring to take and pass any needed tests.

There are also alternate tests listed on the department's website.
