Clay County Shooting Investigation

The Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a 46 year old man.

Sheriff Kenny Lemons said the victim, John Derek Hamlin, was shot around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Sheriff Lemons said they were called at that time for a report of a domestic  disturbance in the 4100 block of FM 2393 in Northern Clay County. Sheriff Lemons said the caller stated someone had been shot and needed an ambulance.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Dean First Responders all arrived at the scene. Officials said Hamlin was found dead with a single gunshot to the chest.

Witnesses at the scene were questioned. No one was arrested. Hamlin's body was sent for an autopsy.

Sheriff Lemons said the investigation continues. Newschannel 6 will stay on top of this developing situation.
