Drugs in Jail

Wichita County Sheriff's Office Detention Officers are working to stay on top of any contraband inside the jail. On November 1, Officers say they found pills on an inmate at the Jail Annex.

John Truman Gill, 30, has been charged with Prohibited Substances and Items in a Correctional Facility. The probable cause affidavit says officers caught him pulling a rolled up dollar bill from his crotch. Inside the bill was pills and pill fragments totally 24 pills. The drugs included Methadone, Clonazepam, Alprazolam and Diazapam.

WSCO Deputy Chief Derek Meador said the DO's are the first line of defense against contraband. They are all trained in how to spot it. "A lot of it comes from experience of just working in the facility and talking with older, more experienced officers. Its something you get a feel for basically," he said.

Officers are also trained against ‘downing a duck', a prison term for inmates being able to gain control of an Officer.
