Police To Honor Man Who Tailed Lee Harvey Oswald

DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police plan to honor a man who led them to Lee Harvey Oswald's hiding place in a movie theater 48 years ago.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown will present a Citizen's Certificate of Merit to Johnny Calvin Brewer at a special ceremony Tuesday afternoon at the Texas Theatre.

Police credit Brewer's "keen observation skills and strong sense of civic duty" with helping officers arrest Oswald, who was accused of assassinating President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963.

Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit was also murdered after noticing a man who fit the assassin's description.

Brewer was working at a shoe store nearby when he heard about the slayings on the radio. He saw a man in the shoe store's foyer acting suspiciously and followed him into the theater.
