Son Kills Father In Stephens County Hunting Accident

A father was shot and killed in a hunting accident in Stephens County on Sunday.

The father and son were on a hunting trip in a rural area in Oklahoma between Duncan and Velma near their home.

Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said, "It's still under investigation but it appears that possibly the dad had laid the rifle against the tree and was picking up chairs…and the young son picked the rifle up, the dad goes to take the rifle and it discharged."

The mother of the deceased called the authorities when she heard the gunfire.

Investigators said the father was killed instantly and nothing could have been done to save him.

Gun experts always recommend never loading your weapon until you are at the hunting site.
