Man With Shells Arrested At Okla. Air Force Base

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. (AP) - A man with shotgun shells and undisclosed chemicals in his vehicle has been taken into custody at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mark Myers says the 71-year-old man was being questioned after deputies were called to the base Wednesday evening.

Base officials say a suspicious package and vehicle were reported near a base building around 5:15 p.m., and personnel were evacuated from the area as a precaution.

Officials say the sheriff's bomb squad was brought in and determined that the package and vehicle were harmless and posed no threat.

No other details about the man were released. In a statement released late Wednesday night, base officials only said that a person of interest was being questioned.
