Mechanical Problem Linked To Highway 82 Crash

Traffic is moving again after an accident on Highway 82 near the Kamay Y tonight that injured 7 people.

DPS Trooper Tony Fulton said 18-year-old Ryan Pando was driving a 1997 Chevy Tahoe westbound on highway 82 when he hear a loud "Pop."  After the noise, the Tahoe jerked to the left into an oncoming 2000 GMC SUV.

The GMC spun off the road to the north and the Tahoe rolled over into a ditch.

The driver of the GMC, Jo L. Putman, 26, was pinned behind the wheel for nearly an hour after the accident. She was then care-flighted to United Regional and was admitted to the ICU. Her current condition is not being released.

The 47-year-old front-seat passenger and the 5-year-old, 6-year-old and 27-year-old back seat passengers all sustained minor injuries. They were treated at United Regional and released.

Authorities do not believe the passengers in the back seat were wearing safety restraints.

It remains unclear if any charges will be filed.
