Choctaw Nation Receives Environmental Awards

DURANT, Okla. (AP) - The Choctaw Nation is the recipient of a pair of environmental awards for its efforts to expand recycling.

The Durant Daily Democrat reports that the nonprofit group Keep Oklahoma Beautiful has cited the tribe for working to improve the environment. The Choctaw Nation was also honored at the Environmental Excellence Awards in Oklahoma City last month.

Programs within the tribe include traditional recycling but also range from having children recycle used crayons to efforts to collect winter coats.
