Wildcats Rally Past Tornado, 7-3

The Wichita Falls Wildcats scored seven unanswered goals Friday night to beat the Texas Tornado 7-3 in NAHL South Division action at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls.

Texas scored 25 seconds into the game and led 3-0 with 12:26 left in the first before the Wildcats started their comeback.

Nick Szopinski scored the first of his two goals, both unassisted, less than a minute later, and the comeback was on.

Chris Pontello scored later in the first period to pull the team within 3-2, then scored again in the second period to tie the game at three.

Brennen Parker, Tyler Hope and Szopinski scored in a five-minute span in the last six minutes of the second to put the Wildcats on top to stay.

Pontello finished off a hat trick with an empty-net goal with nine seconds left.

Matt Leon stopped 22 of 25 shots for the win.

The Wildcats host the Tornado again Saturday night at 7:05, then they face Amarillo Monday night at 7:05.

On Monday, Newschannel 6 will be collecting coats and blankets as part of the Newschannel 6 Coat and Blanket Drive for People and Pets, Too, benefiting Faith Mission and the Wichita County Humane Society!
