Wildcats Fall to Amarillo

The Wichita Falls Wildcats twice rallied from deficits in the first period, but couldn't overcome first-place Amarillo in a 5-2 loss Monday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum.

Jason Eddy and Luke Sandler scored for the Wildcats in the first period, but Mike Erickson scored midway through the second period to break a 2-2 tie, and the Bulls added two more goals to put the game away.

Wichita Falls outshot Amarillo 36-31 for the game, winning the shots battle each period, but Mike Taffe made 34 saves to pick up the win.

Matt Leon stopped 26 of 31 shots for the Wildcats, who fall to 10-18-2 on the season (22 points).

Amarillo improved to 26-3-4, for a league-high 56 points.

The Wildcats return the visit to Amarillo a week from Wednesday, before a two-game trip to Corpus Christi New Year's weekend.

They will return home Friday night, January 13 to face the Texas Tornado at 7:05 p.m.
