Survey Teams Seek Signs Of Houston-Area Tornadoes

HOUSTON (AP) - National Weather Service teams will survey parts of the Houston area to determine if tornadoes are responsible for damage to homes and a suburban shopping mall.

Some roads flooded and nearly 20,000 Houston-area residents lost power Monday during powerful thunderstorms. CenterPoint Energy on Tuesday reported only about 300 customers still without electricity.

Weather teams will examine storm damage near Sugar Land and to the Mall of the Mainland in Texas City, about 40 miles southeast of Houston.

Texas City Fire Chief Joe Gorman evacuated and shut down the mall in the wake of the storm. Nobody was hurt.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says snow was ending Tuesday across West Texas. Midland has received nearly 11 inches of snow since Monday.

School was canceled Tuesday in Odessa due to weather.
