Obama seeks power to merge agencies

WASHINGTON (AP) - The last time a president was given this type of power to reorganize government was when Ronald Reagan was in office.

President Barack Obama will be asking Congress to give him the ability to consolidate agencies, a move aimed at saving money and helping consumers. The deal would entitle him to an up-or-down vote in Congress in 90 days. Obama's first proposal would be to combine since sprawling trade and commerce operations into one.
