Local Reaction To Proposed Defense Cuts

The department of defense has proposed another round of Base Realignment and Closure Committee talks and it could have a drastic impact on Texoma.

For a round of BRAC to go through, Congress must give approval.

Newschannel 6 spoke with U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry on how he felt on the issue.

The Congressman says he does not think Congress would approve another round of BRAC.

"On both the House and Senate sides with Republican and Democrats there is rather a bitter taste from the last round of BRAC because it simply has not produced the savings that they said it would be," said Congressman Thornberry.

Congressman Thornberry also said Sheppard is a valuable asset to the military and he believes the base would fare well should another round of BRAC happen. He said the Texoma community plays a large role in the success of Sheppard.

We also spoke with Kay Yeager who chairs the Sheppard Military Affairs Committee and she's confident Sheppard is in good shape if BRAC were to come back.
