The Bowman VFD in Archer County has a unique vehicle for sale. The VFD is in the middle of getting a new pumper truck and is selling the old one. The 1979 Ford pumper used to belong to the Wichita Falls FD. It's loaded with features, and priced to sell – but nobody is buying it.
Bowman Chief John Strenski said it's a tough market. "Right now its brutal. The market out there for just loose money from the collectors, its just not there," he said. Normally collectors would have snapped a chance to own a truck like this.
Its not just collectors, this is a fully functional structure fire rig. "Honestly a smaller fire department that doesn't already have a structure truck, this would fit a good role for them… It comes with all the outlets needed to fight fire…It comes equipped for the guys to actually wear the air packs for the guys to actually wear the air packs when they are sitting in the seats," Strenski said.
Strenski thinks the current state budget crunch and federal money drying up has a lot to do with the current used fire truck market. "The big municipal departments are not letting go of trucks they normally would, they are being forced to use trucks longer than they usually would have," he said.
If you would like to purchase the truck, it is posted on Craigslist.
