Newschannel 6 learned Thursday that two dogs that attacked an elderly woman were put down. The mother of the dog's owner said her son is very upset about the attack. She said he felt putting the dogs down was the responsible thing to do.
Newschannel 6 also learned the owner rescued the dogs from a home where he said they were mistreated.
The dogs attacked June O'Hara, 77, Wednesday afternoon in City View. O'Hara's son told Newschannel 6 his mother was out for her daily walk when the attack happened.
Several people were in the area. They helped fight the dogs off, but it took several minutes. Paramedics took O'Hara to United Regional. She was treated for a number of dog bites and released the same day. Newschannel 6 called United Regional on Friday and learned O'Hara went to the emergency room a second time for further treatment. A United Regional spokesperson told Newschannel 6 O'Hara was readmitted in fair condition.
Animal Control issued a citation to the owner. The Wichita Falls Police Department said so far there are no charges filed against the owner.
