Iwo Jima Survivors Reunion

Students at Sheppard Elementary met some true living legends today. Iwo Jima veterans visited the students at the school. The veterans from America's Greatest Generation ate lunch with  the kiddos and also were honored with a patriotic rally.

This event kicks off a weekend at Sheppard for a reunion of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association of Texas. Saturday morning a Flag Raising Reenactment begins at 10 a.m., Tours of the local Military Museum are planned. A "Missing Man" flyover is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, by The Texas Twisters, a T-34 formation flying group from Ft. Worth.

The All Forces Dinner Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn Ballroom will require a $25 ticket available early at the reservation desk. Keynote speaker will be Air Force Col. Paul W. Tibbets, IV, grandson of the late General Paul Tibbets, pilot of "Enola Gay" that dropped the 1st atomic bomb to end World War II.

A special "meet & greet" invitation to the public will be Saturday afternoon when everyone can visit with these "Hero's of WW-II" in the Holiday Inn By The Falls lobby from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Final event will be a Memorial Service at 9 a.m. Sunday conducted by Sheppard AFB Chaplain Jason Klodnicki. The Flag Folding Ceremony will be conducted by Sheppard Air Force Base 1st Sgts. Council.
