MSU Softball: Sweep Over Eastern New Mexico

Midwestern State's Courtney Ford drilled two home runs and drove in seven runs to lead the Mustangs to a sweep of Eastern New Mexico 8-5 and 6-5 Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs improved to 12-10 on the season and to 2-1 in LSC play while ENMU dropped to 5-12 and 1-2.

Ford launched a three-run shot to center field in the second inning of Game 1 then laced a two-run double down the left-field line in the sixth to clinch the 8-5 win for the Mustangs.

The sophomore designated player from Graham launched her fifth homer of the season in the second to complete her career day.

Junior outfielder Courtney Bingham continued to deliver at the plate by going 2-for 4 in the opener with a two-run double while senior outfielder NIcki Duff went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot. Junior second baseman Carey Campbell enjoyed a 2-for-4 day to highlight MSU's 11-hit performance in Game 1.

Freshman hurler Lindsi Glenn went the distance while allowing five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk to move to 10-6 on the season.

The Mustangs and Zias battled to a 5-5 tie through seven innings in the nightcap before Bingham lined a one-out single down the right-field line, advanced to second on Kim Jerrick's walk and scored the winning run on Mallory Mooney's double to the left-field gap.

Bingham notched her seventh game with at least three hits while freshman shortstop Kelley Schaefer joined Campbell with two hits each.

Glenn improved to 11-6 allowing two runs - one earned - on 11 hits in five innings of relief.

Midwestern State takes on No. 2 West Texas A&M in a three-game series Friday and Saturday in Canyon.
