MSU Golf: Mustangs Struggle at SEU Invitational

The Midwestern State Mustangs struggled during the first two rounds of the St. Edward's Invitational on Monday to stand in a 14th place tie heading into the final round at the Grey Rock Golf Club.
The Mustangs posted a 313-316—629 after the first day that has them well behind the lead pack and needing a strong final round to keep from losing too much ground to the rest of the Division II schools making up the field.
Midwestern is being led by Sam Smith, the Archer City junior who shot a nine-over 153 after posting rounds of 74 and 79.  The score has him tied at 19th.
Derek Oland is one stroke behind Smith in a tie for 23rd after a 79-75—154.   Raine Copeland added an 162 with rounds of 81 and 80, both of which counted in the team score.
Antonio Herran posted a 79-83—162, while Jeremy LeGuen turned in an 84-82—166.
Nova Southeastern (Fla.) leads the tournament at 588, while Barry (Fla.) is second at 589.  Host St. Edward's is third at 599, followed by Chico State (Calif.) at 602 and Abilene Christian at 603.
The final round of the tournament is Tuesday.

MSU Tennis Match Canceled

The Midwestern State Mustangs match with the NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin LadyJacks has been canceled.

The match that was to have featured Division II's No. 35 team against Division I's 60th ranked team on March 24 will not be played and will not be rescheduled for this year.

The Mustangs will return to the court on Saturday in Hattiesburg, Miss., when they face William Carey to start a trip in the Southeast and Florida.
