Lawton's Police Chief Leaves The Force

He served on Lawton's police force for 37 years. Now Lawton's Police Chief Ronnie Smith is resigning.

Smith submitted his resignation Tuesday, March 6. Lawton City Manager Larry Mitchell said Smith resigned because he believes it was in his best interest.

Smith was a police officer for 30 years before retiring. He later came back to the force as the police chief and held that position for 7 years.

Mitchell said Smith was a wonderful public servant, who did a lot of good for the community and for his department.

Smith was absent from his office a week ago, which started rumors about his future. Mitchell said Smith was on leave of absence, but he was not under investigation for any wrongdoing.
