Former Fire Chief Sentenced

The former Archer County Volunteer Fire Chief was sentenced on theft charges.

Archer, Montague and Clay County District Attorney Jack McGaughey said George Scott Burkett pleaded guilty Monday, March 5, to 52 counts of theft. Burkett was accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the fire department.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which was suspended for 10 years of probation. He was given probation on the condition he pays $23,145.49 in restitution.
