Bateman Promoted to Vernon Head Coach

Vernon High School promoted Mark Bateman Monday to Head Football Coach and Athletic Director after Andy Correll stepped down Friday from both positions, citing medical reasons.

Bateman had been an assistant coach for the Lions for the last ten years, holding both the Offensive and Defensive Coordinator jobs.

He almost was named the Head Coach two years ago, falling one vote short of Correll in a 2010 school board meeting.

Correll was 2-18 in two seasons with the Lions, missing the last three games last season with an illness.

Vernon is just 3-27 in the last three seasons, after a state semifinals appearance as recently as 2006.
