Wichita County Emergency Plan Approved

The Wichita County Commissioner Court approved a Memorandum of Understanding from the Texas Supreme Court.

The Memorandum of Understanding provides assistance to neighboring counties in the event of an emergency.

Wichita County Judge Woody Gossom said measure will be beneficial to all of Texoma.

"If a nearby courthouse is destroyed or inoperable we will provide additional support. And it gets us support if anything happens to our courthouse." Gossom said, "It's a contingency plan. any number of things could happen. Floods, fire, a power outage that lasts longer than people expect."

The Memorandum comes from the chaos caused along the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Ike. The court proceedings for several counties along the coast were delayed due to the storm.
