Early Morning Shooting At Stone Creek Ranch Apartments

Update: We have new information on an early morning shooting at the Stone Creek Ranch Apartments on Taft Blvd.

The suspected gunman is at the Wichita Falls State Hospital for emergency detention. Several neighboring apartments were evacuated for safety concerns.  Those residents are now allowed back inside their apartments.

Wichita Falls Police Sgt. Joe Snyder said a call came in for gunshots at 4:07 a.m. Monday.

One of the calls was from the gunman who said he had fired two shots through his apartment door. The man then went to a neighbor's apartment where a woman talked him into putting the weapon down and meeting officers outside.

The man then told Officers he believed his adult son was still inside the apartment and might be held against his will by a different gunman. With this information, Officers secured the scene, evacuated nearby apartments and asked for SWAT and Crisis Negotiators.

At 6:19 a.m., the man's son contacted officers and told them he was not inside the apartment and did not know why the man would have made up the story. SWAT then entered the apartment to confirm the story. No one was inside.

Sgt. Snyder said health professionals are now evaluating the suspect. No arrests or charges have been made.
