A Texoma mother is under arrest and charged for the death of her 1-year-old baby.
According the arrest affidavit, first responders and ambulance service were dispatched to April Starr Alexander's home on the 2200 block of Polk Street on Tuesday, April 05, 2011. The call was for an unresponsive child. the child was the child of Alexander, who called dispatch.
The child was taken to United Regional in critical condition. The one year old was the flown taken to Cook Children's Hospital.
In the ICU at Cook, doctors found the baby to have substantial injuries to the brain due to blunt force trauma and several non-accidental fractures. Some fractures were also in an advanced stage of healing.
The child was pronounced dead April 07, 2011. An autopsy was performed on April 09, 2011.
Detective Raymond Perry investigated the case. He Alexander told him she was the primary caregiver of her two children - the one year old and a two year old. She told Perry she was the only one who looked after the pair on Monday and Tuesday while her husband worked. During the investigation, Alexander gave different accounts of the days events, raising suspicious. She also had no viable explanation for the injures.
