WFISD May Be Looking For A New Leader

The Wichita Falls ISD could soon be looking for a new leader. Thursday night the Waco-Midway ISD voted to name Dr. George Kazanas the lone finalist for their open superintendent position. It will be 21-days before the board can officially hire Dr. Kazanas.

Dr. Kazanas was hired in June of 2009 by the Wichita Falls ISD. He will be returning to the Waco area. He came to Wichita Falls from the China Spring ISD. Dr. Kazanas replaced long time superintendent Dr. Robert Orr in Wichita Falls.

A WFISD Press Release indicated the following accomplishments during Dr. Kazanas' tenure:

-Texas Education Agency Recognized District in 2010

- Guided district staff through the Budget Action Committee process which identified and prioritized cost-saving measures presented to the Board of Trustees totaling $8.9 million

- Supported expansion of Response to Intervention (RTI) programs at all campuses resulting in the reduction of the number of students classified as Special Education; and

- Expanded parental involvement opportunities on campuses through district-wide initiatives like direct call and text communication with parents.
