The Wichita Falls Federal Court Misses Chopping Block

The Wichita Falls Federal Court will not be closing anytime soon.

Judge Robert K. Roach told Newschannel 6 that the fifth circuit court of appeals voted Friday to keep the Wichita Falls division of the northern district Texas courthouse open.

Judge Roach said, "The judicial council of the fifth circuit has determined that this division should continue to provide that justice for the people of this area."

As many as 60 court sites across the country, including federal courthouses in Wichita Falls and Lawton, were on the chopping block. The federal government was considering closing the facilities in an effort to cut costs.

Texomans would have had to go to the next closest facility, which is in Fort Worth, if the Wichita Falls Federal Court was closed.
