Car Crashes Into Ambulance Carrying Patient

Wichita Falls police have identified the deceased patient who was in an ambulance that was involved in a crash Monday afternoon.

Police said Roy Lee Pope, 58, of Archer City was found deceased at the scene of the accident.

Police said paramedics had the sirens on and were taking Pope to United Regional Hospital when a driver failed to stop for the ambulance. The driver crashed into the emergency vehicle so hard the ambulance was pushed about 60 feet. The impact even forced the ambulance onto its side.

The crash happened at 11th Street and Holliday Road.

Police said paramedics were actively working to save Pope's life at the time of the crash.

Four ambulance attendants went to the hospital, one walked there, and the unidentified driver was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

For now police are investigating the crash as a fatality accident.
