Bowie Mother Sentenced

A Bowie mother was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison.

Sharon Worthy, 22,  was convicted of failing to call police or seek medical help for her young son. Police said her son was beaten to death by her boyfriend in 2010 in Denton County.

Worthy pleaded guilty to Injury to a Child by omission, just hours before her trial was to start Monday.

Health officials said her three year old son died from injuries to the head and brain at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth in March 2010. His death was ruled a homicide.

A Denton County jury convicted Worthy's boyfriend, Curtis Copeland, 28, in December of capital murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Worthy must serve more than two years in prison before she is eligible for parole. Child Protective Service officials said Worthy's two sons are in foster care.
